Overall, the Preliminary Task turned out better than we expected. Although we were struggling for time, all of the footage we needed was filmed on time. However, during the editing process we discovered that the audio of the actors within the video was much too quiet to be heard. This resulted in us having to double up the sound of the speakers in order to make it heard over the music. From this experience, we have realised that in future we may have to ask the actors to speak much louder and also possibly use better sound recording equipment such as portable microphones instead of the standard built-in microphone on the camera.
The lighting in the video worked effectively and as planned. We recorded the majority of the scene inside the college's TV studio and used a red-light in order to light the main character, Beth. The light source came from behind the doctor, Katy, in order to light Beth and so casted a slight silhouette around Katy to make her seem much more mysterious and to give prominence to Beth who is the person the audience are supposed to focus on. By having Beth in the spotlight, the attention is focused more on her.
Samantha Lee directed the scene involving Beth and Katy organising what they were going to say and also their positions and reactions on camera. She also contributed in setting up the lighting of the scene so that Beth was in the spotlight. Anthony Wilkinson stood in as an extra and also helped to set up the camera equipment such as the dolly and tripod. Jake Johnson both filmed and edited the scene and helped to position the characters; guiding them as to where they should be in relation to the camera.
